Top 5 things to do in Bristol in Spring!
Being consistently lucky enough to work in all areas of Bristol, we at Associated Windows never take for granted how lucky we are to be based in such a thriving and vibrant city. Steeped in a long history of maritime exploits as a dockside town and the home to a lots of artistic culture, we thought we’d reveal some of our favourite things to do when we’re not busy installing windows and doors.
With the snow having finally melted and the Sun starting to shine, what better time is there to explore the city of Bristol?
1. A stroll through Ashton Court Estate
Situated amongst 850 acres of wide open grass and woodland, Ashton Court Estate is the former historic home of the Smuth family, but now is a country park that’s open to visitors throughout the year. Upon visiting, you’ll be treated to much natural wildlife, plenty of friendly dog walkers and a café that’s open 10am to 3pm, being the perfect place to gather your thoughts and take a scenic stroll.
Ashton Court plays host to Bristol’s famous International Balloon Fiesta in the Summer of every year, whereby thousands of city residents gather to watch hot air balloons take off into the sky. If ever you get the chance to visit, we’d highly recommend visiting when it’s on so you can try all the unique cuisine and soak in the general atmosphere.
2. Explore We The Curious Discovery Centre
Formally known as simply @Bristol, We The Curious is the city’s hands-on science discovery centre that encourages young and big kids alike to explore and embrace their curiosity of knowledge. Paying a visit means being able to try and check out a wide range of practical experiments and tests intended to feed every human being’s natural thirst for knowledge – always in a fun way.
A particular highlight of We The Curious is the Planetarium, whereby the staff regularly put on shows about the many intergalactic goings on which occur above us in space. Those who have passed through Millennium Square will recognise it as the big shiny silver ball, but why not see what it’s like on the inside?
3. Enjoy city-wide views from the Clifton Suspension Bridge
Arguably Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s biggest engineering achievement outside of the SS Great Britain, walking along Clifton’s eponymous Suspension Bridge means being able to enjoy a spectacular view of the entire city. In the Spring or Summer, there’s nothing quite like being up high and watching the sun glisten over the River Avon. Here’s the best place to do it. The bridge is free to cross when on foot and there are on-hand volunteers that offer tours if you’re interested in the history specifically.
4. Grab a harbourside drink at one of the local pubs
Bristol’s famous harbour has plenty of pubs, restaurants, and dining venues situated along both sides, meaning that when the sun makes an appearance its prime time to sit outside with a cold pint. Once settling down somewhere like The Ostrich, The Orchard Inn, or The Grain Barge, you’ll be able to watch the rowers and various boat tours go by in complete comfort.
5. Embrace your wild side with a trip to Bristol Zoo
Lovers of all things cute and furry will no doubt want to pay a visit to Bristol Zoo, where such animals as Lions, Penguins, and even Gorillas make an appearance. There are regular demonstrations which take place throughout the day, as well as the chance to get up close and personal with some of nature’s most amazing beasts and animals.
