What is double glazing?

Unlike single glazed windows, which have one pane of glass, double glazed windows have two. The two panes of glass are separated by a small gap, via a spacing system. The gap is usually filled with an inert gas, such as argon, which significantly improves the thermal efficiency of the window compared to single glazing.

Such gases are used because they do not conduct heat. If you would like to find out more information, please do not hesitate to give us a call or leave us a message via our online contact form.

How you can tell if a window is single or double glazed?

There are two common methods that you can employ to determine whether or not your window is single or double glazed:

  • Method 1: Look at the inside edge of the window. If you see two panes of glass separated by a small spacer system, then it’s a double glazed window. If you see one pane of glass and no spacing system, then it’s single glazed.
  • Method 2: Open the window and use your fingers to touch both sides of it in the same spot. You should be able to tell if it’s double glazed or not by checking how far apart your fingers are from one another. If they’re almost touching, the window is most likely single glazed.
